Council tax cost by postcode

Enter your postcode to see the 2026-27 council tax cost for every band (A to H) at your local council. Uses the official DLUHC area Band D dataset (includes county, police and fire precepts).

How accurate is this?

The Band D figures come from the official DLUHC "Band D Council Tax" dataset for 2026-27, table 5 (area Band D for local authorities). Bands A-C and E-H are derived using the statutory ratios fixed by the Local Government Finance Act 1992: A = 6/9 of D, B = 7/9, C = 8/9, E = 11/9, F = 13/9, G = 15/9, H = 18/9. These ratios are not approximations: they are the law.

What's NOT included: parish/town council precepts (usually £20-£100 extra), Single Person Discount (25% off if you live alone), council tax reduction for low income, second-home and empty-property premiums.

Currently covers 259 English local authorities. Scotland and Wales added soon.

Council tax bands classify UK properties into 8 bands (A to H) based on property value. Band A properties pay the least, Band H the most. Bands were set using 1991 property values in England and Scotland, 2003 values in Wales. Your band affects how much council tax you pay each year. You can check your band free on gov.uk and challenge it if you believe it's wrong.
